SECTION 1.

C.O

RECY REC 23 JUL 07,

Question asked in the House of Commons, July 4, 1907.

Mr. Charles Price,-To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has any official information showing that it is the purpose of the United States of America to release China from the payment of all but the actual expenses incurred by the American authorities in the Boxer rising, amounting to 11,000,000 dollars, and if so, whether a similar course of action will be taken by this country.

Answer.

I have had no official information of the nature indicated in the honourable Member's question, but the claim of His Majesty's Government was originally based upon the estimate of actual expenditure incurred, which is the principle advocated in the honourable Member's question.
